Seven core QC metrics: automotive-grade plant vs assembly workshop

These seven dimensions decide whether a pack serves 6–8 years in hot, heavy-duty conditions or comes back for repair in batches after three months.

TIANQIU factory standard
Quality-control dimensionTIANQIU automotive-grade plantLow-cost workshop / parts assembler
01. Cell source and gradeTier-1 new A-grade motive cells (CATL / CALB / EVE and equivalents)
Original factory QR coding supplied, verifiable instantly in the cell maker client; cycle life ≥3,500 cycles to 80% SOH.
Salvaged storage cells, graded B material and re-marked or sanded cells. Internal resistance varies widely, and severe capacity fade with high self-discharge shows up within three months.
02. Pack matching standard100% laser sorting by resistance and capacity, with range control
Intra-batch ΔV ≤ 3mV, ΔIR ≤ 0.5mΩ, self-discharge K-value tracked and sorted automatically so cells inside a pack stay closely matched.
Open-circuit voltage checked by hand (AC internal resistance often not checked at all), then stacked straight into series and parallel. One weak cell overcharges or over-discharges the pack and starts a fire.
03. Busbar and welding processNickel-plated copper stamped busbars + six-axis high-frequency fibre laser welding
Weld penetration 1.2–1.8mm, pull strength ≥250N, impedance below 0.05mΩ, with 100% metallographic sectioning and non-destructive inspection.
Hand soldering irons or simple pneumatic spot welders. Cold joints and spatter cause micro-shorts, and joints crack on corrugated routes such as East African dirt tracks and Indian unpaved roads.
04. BMS battery management systemIn-house automotive dual-channel opto-isolated smart BMS
Withstand voltage ≥120V, generous MOSFET thermal margin, dual temperature probes for accurate control, and CAN 2.0B / RS485 surge-resistant protocol comms.
Unisolated commodity boards taken from storage or low-speed cart applications. With no surge protection, the high-voltage spike from regenerative motor braking punches straight through the MOSFET and the pack loses control.
05. Enclosure structure and sealing1.5mm cold-rolled high-strength steel, powder-coated, dual IP67 seals
High-rebound EVA flame-retardant insulation plus a waterproof explosion-proof breather (Gore valve), validated through 15kPa pressure hold, rain and vibration.
Blue PVC shrink film, or 0.8mm sheet steel joined with silicone. Water ingress and short circuits in the rainy season, with no pressure-relief or explosion-proof valve of any kind.
06. End-of-line testing and ageing100% two full charge/discharge cycles in automated high-temperature ageing cabinets
Includes comprehensive EOL testing (2,500V DC dielectric withstand, insulation resistance ≥500MΩ), with a dedicated step curve supplied per pack.
A five-minute power-on spot check after assembly, with no full charge/discharge cycle run. Latent early-failure cells are never screened out.
07. Marine compliance and export evidenceGenuine, compliant Class 9 dangerous-goods export packing appraisal certificate
Full UN38.3 reports, MSDS and the sea-transport safety assessment, booked and declared properly as a full container.
No genuine packing certificate. Buyers are routinely advised to declare the goods as "hardware parts" or an "empty container" on a double-clearance grey route — one port inspection can destroy the whole container.

Behind a 15–30 USD per kWh price gap sit serious safety exposure and legal return-shipment risk. Use this table to audit whatever you are currently buying overseas; for the safety envelope and destructive validation see the battery safety and thermal runaway whitepaper.

Five core items for a remote or on-site factory audit

Whether you appoint a third-party inspection body or join by video conference, insist that the supplier shows and verifies these five pieces of physical evidence on the spot:

Draw 3 cells and scan them liveTurn the camera onto the six-axis laser welderMatch packing certificate port and batch numberOne independent EOL test sheet per packWrite the 2% spare kit into the contract
fact_checkVerify these five items live
  • Ask for cell barcodes and traceability proof: have the plant draw three cells at random and query the inbound MES records with the cell maker scanner. Genuine new A-grade cells return capacity grade and production date; sanded, re-marked cells return nothing comparable.
  • Inspect the laser welding and leak-test cells: reject a "family workshop" with a couple of benches. Check that an automated six-axis laser welder, a dust-free ESD area and a differential-pressure leak tester are actually present.
  • Verify the original customs packing certificate: ask for the original certificate of packing usage appraisal for dangerous-goods export. Compare the exit port and production batch number against your order — an informal assembler simply cannot issue one.
  • Audit the EOL final-test data pack: a genuine plant runs comprehensive EOL testing before dispatch. Ask for the machine-printed sheet covering the insulation withstand curve, over-current trip response time and total internal resistance.
  • Confirm the 2% overseas spare-parts kit: every export container must carry the factory 2% free spare kit (spare BMS control board, aviation connectors, fuses, harnesses). A supplier who refuses this is telling you they have no overseas after-sales capability.

helpBuyer FAQ & Trap Evasion

Six questions buyers ask before signing — and the traps they hide

The contract traps and technical misrepresentation importers and fleet operators meet most often when dealing with a domestic lithium battery contract manufacturer:

Q1: I am overseas and cannot visit — how do I confirm a real factory rather than a shell trading company?expand_more
Ask for an immediate video call and nominate any workstation for a hand-gesture interaction; ask for the factory ownership certificate, or six or more consecutive months of lease contracts and invoices; and ask to see the live production schedule on the MES screen. TIANQIU supports 1080P live line inspection and traceability of the customs dangerous-goods packing certificate.
Q2: How do I stop a supplier switching to graded second-hand cells in mass production after passing sample tests?expand_more
Write an explicit cell-batch traceability agreement into the contract with a triple-damages penalty for breach; before container loading, appoint a third party such as SGS or CCIC to open and destructively sample cartons on site, monitor charge/discharge temperature rise with a thermal imager (refurbished cells show very uneven local heating), and cross-check every pack barcode against the database.
Q3: Why are some suppliers 30–50 USD cheaper per pack? Where is the difference?expand_more
It comes from four cut corners: ① obsolete storage B-grade or dismantled graded cells; ② skipping flame-retardant insulating potting and the IP67 leak-tightness pressure step; ③ an unisolated commodity BMS with half the MOSFET count; ④ no legal dangerous-goods packing certificate, shipped on a false declaration. It looks cheaper until the container is seized at destination and the end customer returns the batch.
Q4: If a pack fails in warranty after shipping to Mombasa or Lagos, how is the claim handled overseas?expand_more
TIANQIU operates authorised technical service points in East Africa (Nairobi) and West Africa with consumable parts in stock, and every container ships with a free 2% spare kit. For a systemic quality issue, upload the CAN diagnostic frames and our engineering team issues a solution within 24 hours on working days and dispatches free replacements directly from the local overseas spare-parts warehouse.
Q5: Who handles clearance certification such as Kenya PVoC or India AIS-156?expand_more
TIANQIU holds complete UN38.3, CE, IEC 62619 and India AIS-156 Phase 2 laboratory reports. For the Kenya KEBS PVoC requirement, our dedicated export specialist handles the inspection body end to end, including the on-site container sampling inspection, and issues the original CoC so the shipment clears 100% at destination.
Q6: Can I send a sample for conversion testing, or have your engineers co-calibrate the powertrain?expand_more
Certainly. Our engineering team supports motor/controller co-calibration and protocol development for classic petrol-to-electric conversions including the Bajaj RE, TVS King and Piaggio Ape. Provide the vehicle kerb weight, motor peak power and top-speed requirement, and we deliver the full powertrain calculation package within 48 hours.
